Party leader works with coal, mineral group

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong inspected production and Party-building work at the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation in the northern province of Quang Ninh on April 6.

He praised the group for its ongoing restructuring efforts to optimize production and improve its competitive capacity.

The group needs to draw up a long-term business strategy towards sustainable development, or it will pay a high price for its spontaneous plans, said Trong.

He inquired into miners’ living conditions and pledged to improve their material and spiritual lives.

This year, the group aims to stabilise production and maintain jobs and income for workers. It will step up consumption and practice thrift to improve operational efficiency.

In the first quarter of this year, it expects to churn out 11.7 million tonnes of coal, sell 10.7 million tonnes and earn US$1.2 billion in revenue.
