Party leader visits southeastern provinces

(VOV) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong paid working visits to the southeastern provinces of Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc from April 13-14.

Visiting Binh Phuoc on April 14, Trong urged the province to fully tap its forest and mineral resources potential, combat corruption and intensify land management to speed up socio-economic development.

He applauded its efforts to reduce the number of poor households to 5.4 percent and improve lives of residents in all areas. The province posted economic growth of 12.26 percent between 2011 and 2013. During the difficult year of 2012, it contributed VND3,900 billion to the State budget.

The Party leader noted that the province has actively implemented the Resolutions of the Party Central Committee’s 4th meeting on strengthening the Party and the 11th National Party Congress through detailed and practical plans of action, earning initial positive outcomes.

He instructed the province to continue implementing these guidelines, making it a regular and long-term political task.

Trong also visited soldiers at Army Corp 16 and residents at Tan Lap commune in Dong Phu district, one of the 16 locations in the province which are being upgraded following the government’s new model for rural areas.

On April 13, Party leader Trong visited Binh Duong to inspect the implementation of resolutions adopted at the 11th National Party Congress and the provincial Party Congress on socio-economic development and Party building.

He urged the southern province of Binh Duong to work on ways to ensure rapid and sustainable development.

During a working session with key provincial leaders, Mr. Trong praised Binh Duong’s great efforts to realise its economic tasks by tapping its full potential, taking advantage of its geographical position and utilizing its natural resources effectively to turn a poor province into a modern industrialised locality after 15 years of renovation.

Binh Duong plays an important role in boosting economic development in the key southern economic region.

Despite facing numerous difficulties, the province achieved relatively high economic growth of 13.3 percent in the 2011-2012 period. The proportions represented by agricultural and industrial productions continue to decrease while services are now increasing due to economic restructuring.

Binh Duong is regarded as a bright spot for attracting investment, with nearly 14,000 domestic businesses currently operating with total registered capital of VND107,000 billion and more than 2,150 foreign-invested projects worth more than US$18 billion.

Over 65 percent of the area in its 28 industrial parks has been built up, and the province is developing infrastructure for a new urban area in the Binh Duong industrial-service-urban complex, as well as a centralized political and administrative centre.

General Secretary Trong urged the province to enhance regional connectivity with HCM City and other key economic regions, deal effectively with social and environmental issues, land planning and management, and work on controlling population growth.

The Party leader said that Party building work must be carried out strictly and constantly, implementing annual votes of confidence, better personnel planning, and proper mechanisms and policies in line with the campaign to “Study and Follow President Ho Chi Minh’s Moral Example.”

During the visit, Trong also visited some economic establishments, the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) and Eastern International University (EIU).
