Female Politburo member chairs Party’s Mass Mobilisation Commission

Truong Thi Mai, one of the three female members of the 12th tenure Politburo, officially assumed the role of head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission on Mass Mobilisation on February 17.

At a meeting to announce the Politburo’s decision, Politburo member and standing member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Dinh The Huynh described Mai as a capable and experienced official.

Earlier, she was the Secretary and Standing Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Youth Federation, and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly (NA)’s Committee on Culture, Education, Youth and Children.

She was also a member of the NA’s Standing Committee and the Chairwoman of the NA’s Committee on Social Affairs.

Mai, born in 1958, was recently re-elected to the Party Central Committee in the 12th tenure (2016 – 2020) after serving in the Party body in the 10th and 11th terms. She was voted onto the Politburo by the new Party Central Committee, Huynh noted.

She replaced Ha Thi Khiet, who acted as the Chairwoman of the Mass Mobilisation Commission in the 11th tenure.

Under other decisions publicised on February 15, Politburo members Vo Van Thuong and Pham Minh Chinh are named the respective heads of the Party Central Committee’s Information and Education Commission and the Organisation Commission.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Nen is the new chief of the Party Central Committee’s Office.
