Vietnamese, Indonesian navies deepen cooperation

Vietnamese and Indonesian army and navy forces should promote cooperation, particularly in addressing non-traditional security challenges and fishermen’s violations in overlapping waters, said Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang.

He made the statement while receiving an Indonesian navy delegation led by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Ade Supandi in Hanoi on November 28.

Giang affirmed that the Vietnam People’s Army will create favorable conditions for naval forces of both sides to deepen collaboration in the coming time.

The two countries have enjoyed fruitful bilateral defence relations in the past years, especially after they inked a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral defence cooperation in 2010, Giang noted, adding that the move has helped enhance mutual understanding and trust as well as bolster Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership.

For his part, Ade Supandi wanted to increase exchanges between the two sides to build sound bilateral relations, making positive contributions to the two countries’ ties for regional peace and stability.
