Vietnam, Thailand sanguine of growing ties
VOV.VN - Vietnamese and Thai government leaders have expressed their pleasure over the fine development of their bilateral relations in politics, diplomacy, and the regular exchange of high-ranking delegations.
At their meeting in Hanoi on October 25 on the sidelines of the ongoing ACMECS 7 Summit,CLMV 8 and WEF-Mekong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak also spoke highly of the expansion of cooperation among ministries, sectors, and provinces, tighter coordination in security and defense, economics, trade, and investment, which are all bringing more practical benefits for both countries.
The two leaders insisted that cooperative potential in economics, trade, and investment between the two nations remains high and both can reach the trade turnover target of US$20 billion by 2020.
They agreed to continue to work with other ASEAN members to maintain solidarity, uphold the central role of ASEAN for regional and international issues, and coordinate with each other, and other countries, international organizations in management and the effective use of Mekong River water to ensure the benefits to the nations along the Lower Mekong River.
The Thai Deputy PM also noted with satisfaction increased bilateral cooperation across sectors, especially since the countries set up a strategic partnership in 2013.
He said Thai investors in Vietnam are leading enterprises in Thailand and his Government always reminds them of complying with the host country’s law.
He noted that more Thai businesspeople are expected to intensify investment in finance, banking, thermo-electricity, and oil refinery in Vietnam and pledged to assist Vietnamese businesses operating in Thailand.
