Vietnam participates in Francophone activities

(VOV) -  Ambassador Duong Van Quang has said that Vietnam has actively taken part in many Francophone activities.

Ambassador Quang who is also the Vietnamese President’s envoy to the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) in France, has highlighted Vietnam’s contributions to the development of the French-speaking community on the occasion of the 14th Francophone Summit, which is scheduled to take place in Kinshasa, Congo from October 10-14.

Vietnam was one of the original founders of the French-speaking community in 1970, after it signed the treaty establishing the Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation (ACCT).

Since that time, Vietnam has been very active in the Francophone community, particularly at summits beginning in 1986, the ambassador said.

Vietnam hosted the 7th Francophone Summit in 1997, marking a milestone in building the Francophone institution. During the summit, the organisation elevated the 1970 treaty to be the charter of the Francophone community and established the Francophone Organisation by electing its first Secretary General.

Most recently, Vietnam has collaborated with African countries to compile a document on “Francophone elements for implementing tripartite cooperation”, which is expected to be adopted at the organisation's 14th Summit this October.
