Vietnam-Malta diplomatic ties marked in HCM City

(VOV) - The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Malta in Ho Chi Minh City on September 21 hosted a ceremony honouring the 50th Malta’s National Day (1964- 2014) and the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Malta diplomatic ties (1974-2014).

Attendees included municipal leaders, representatives of diplomatic corps in HCM City and Vietnamese and Malta businesses.

Addressing the ceremony, HCM City People’s Committee Vice Chairman Le Manh Ha  greatly appreciated Malta people's sentitments towards Vietnam in its past struggle for national liberation and significant progress both nations have made in promoting closer cooperation.

He said he hopes that cooperative relations between HCM City and Malta will see new steps of development across a variety of fields.

The Honorary Consulate introduced Malta’s Demajo Group and Vietnam’s Joint Stock Company I.value which are two partners undertaking connectivity and support activities in order to boost trade and economic cooperation and cross-cultural exchange between the two countries.

On the occasion, Malta Week in Vietnam has been launched from September 21-26 with diverse activities focusing on trade promotion which gives a good opportunity for individuals and businesses to learn more about import and export, shipping, customs and finance, seek partners and connect Vietnamese businesses with the European, African and Middle East markets.

The Republic of Malta- one of the first European countries established diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1974.

Over the past 40 years of maintaining diplomatic ties, the relationship has grown and prospered towards a longstanding friendship.

Huynh Trung Khanh, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Malta in HCM City said Vietnam and Malta hold bright prospects and opportunities for broader trade cooperation.

The two sides have identified priority areas for cooperation like economics, trade, investment, finance and tourism.

With incentive policies, Malta is seen as a door wide open for Vietnam to easily enter the European, African and Middle East markets and vice versa, Khanh added.
