Vietnam helps Laos build secondary school

(VOV) - A ceremony was held in the Lao province of Savanakhet to inaugurate a secondary school built with funding from the Vietnamese government.

Present at the ceremony was senior officials of both countries, including former Party leader Le Kha Phieu and Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information and Education Dinh The Huynh, and Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad.

Covering a total area of 10,130 square metre, the East Savan school with 12 classrooms for more than 500 students was built at an estimated cost of VND23 billion (US$1.1 million) funded by the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).

The school, located in Sepone district, is a gift from the Vietnamese State to Laos on the 50th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties and the 35th anniversary of the signing of Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.

The gift demonstrated the special friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the Vietnamese and Lao peoples.

On this occasion, Vietnam also donated 15 computers, 5,000 notebooks and US$3,000 to the East Savan school.
