Vietnam expects more UN support for development
Vietnam hopes to receive the United Nations (UN) and international community’ assistance in realising its socio-economic development goals and the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the future.
Dung briefed his guest on Vietnam’s achievements in curbing inflation, stabilising the macro-economy and ensuring social welfare over the past time.

Vietnam is forecast to maintain growth at 5-5.2 percent this year, he said, adding that the rate of poor households in the country reduced by 1.76 percent while the unemployment rate stood at 4 percent.
He said that Vietnam is focusing its efforts on restructuring the economy, securing sustainable growth and social welfare, especially ensuring equal access to healthcare and social services among poor households.
The PM said he hopes the UN will assist Vietnam to cope with climate change and rising sea level, and pledged to create favourable conditions for the UN representative agencies to operate effectively.
Mehta said Vietnam is always an active and responsible member of the UN since it joined the international organisation 35 years ago. In particular, Vietnam is recognised as one of leading countries in implementing the MDGs.
The UN will always support Vietnam in achieving its development goals, Mehta said.
