Vietnam desirous of boosting stronger ties with Lithuania

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh affirmed Vietnam's desire to push up traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Lithuania during her talks with President Dalia Grybauskaite in Vilnius city on October 23 (local time).

The Vietnamese leader suggested promoting economy, trade and investment and  hailed close coordination between the two countries at multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, the UNESCO and the Asia-Europe Meeting over the past years.

She urged Lithuania to support Vietnam’s bid to reinforce ties with the European Union (EU), expedite the early signing and ratification of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and continue creating the best possible conditions for the Vietnamese community living in the country.

Grybauskaite, in turn, proposed broader cooperation in renewable industry, innovation, energy, waste treatment and wood processing and continuing to closely collaborate at multilateral forums.

Both sides consented to rapidly negotiate and sign agreements on economic and education cooperation, double taxation avoidance, visa waiver for diplomatic passport holders, thereby providing a synchronous legal framework for all-around affiliation in the near future.

At a meeting with Speaker of the Seimas (parliament) of Lithuania Viktoras Pranckietis the same day, Thinh reiterated the Vietnamese government 's efforts to improve business climate to attract more foreign investors and hoped that more Lithuanian businesses will plan to do business in Vietnam.

She promised her nation's support for Vietnamese agro-fisheries to enter its market, stating Vietnam will make it easier for goods of Lithuania’s strength to gain entry to its market.

Viktoras Pranckietis also suggested intensifying the exchange of delegations between the two countries as well as economic-trade and investment ties with Vietnam with a focus on food and information technology, wooden furniture, education-training, cross-cultural exchange and tourism.

He praised ASEAN-EU ties, and support to Vietnam-EU ties, including the signing and ratification of EVFTA, hoping that the deal will bring economic-trade-investment benefits to the both sides.

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh is on a visit to Lithuania from October 22-24.
