Vietnam desires broader cooperation with WEF

(VOV) -Vietnam places high importance on cooperation with the World Economic Forum (WEF) and has actively become involved in all of its activities, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at a July 22 reception for WEF Executive Director Philipp Rosler in Hanoi.

PM Dung thanked Philipp and the WEF for supporting Vietnam’s initiative to host the WEF Mekong Conference in 2016 and asked the WEF to help promote Vietnam’s image, encourage major economic groups to invest in the Southeast Asian nation, and join efforts in organizing the WEF Mekong Conference.

He also proposed that the forum support Vietnam in improving its competitiveness and business environment and develop its agriculture sector on a sustainable basis.

Philipp Rosler pledged to help Vietnam elevate its image at WEF conferences and hoped that the country would consider the possibility of hosting the WEF East Asia Conference in the future.

Meeting with Rosler the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh congratulated the WEF on being recognized as an International Institution for Public-Private Cooperation by the Swiss government, adding that the WEF would continue promoting public-private partnership (PPP) in global economic affairs.

Minh assured his guest that Vietnam is ready to spur coordination with the WEF in areas of shared concern such as economic development and national competitiveness improvement.
