Vietnam, China boost public security cooperation

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has applauded cooperation between the two Ministries of Public Security in combating border crime as a practical contribution to boosting the cooperation between Vietnam and China.

At the October 23 reception for Chinese Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu in Hanoi, PM Dung expressed his wish that the two ministries will continue effectively implementing their cooperation activities and affirmed the Vietnamese Government’s constant support for these activities.

He reiterated Vietnam always attaches great importance to developing cooperation with China and will do its utmost to foster bilateral ties in various fields for mutual benefits.

The PM noted the fact that the two countries still have different perceptions on sea-related issues and underscored the need to work together to seek a satisfactory and long-term measure acceptable for both sides in the spirit of comradeship and fraternity as well as high-level agreements reached between the two countries and international law.

The East Sea issue should not be allowed to affect the two countries’ cooperation, he noted.

Minister Meng who is on a working visit to Vietnam for the third Anti-Crime Conference between the two Ministries of Public Security, informed the host of the outcomes of cooperation between the two ministries over the past time, mentioning those in the fight against crimes, such as drug and human trafficking, telecom swindling, weapon smuggling, and hi-tech crime in border areas.

He affirmed that his ministry will continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese side in effectively implementing their cooperation agreements, helping promote the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Regarding the East Sea issue, Meng shared with PM Dung’s viewpoints, saying that the issue will not affect the Vietnam-China relationship.

A welcome ceremony for Minister Meng was held the same day at the Ministry of Public Security’s headquarters in the presence of Senior Lieutenant General Tran Dai Quang and other leaders.

Minister Meng and his Vietnamese counterpart, Tran Dai Quang, co-chaired the third Anti-Crime Conference between the two ministries.

Reviewing cooperation results since September 2010, the two sides agreed that they have closely cooperated in realising common perceptions and effectively combated criminal acts that have threatened the two countries’ security and social order.

The two ministries agreed to continue strengthening their cooperation in the spirit of solidarity, friendship and equal cooperation.

They will coordinate in fighting crimes such as terrorism, trans-national crime, transport and trade of weapons and explosives, trafficking of drugs and humans, especially women and children, gambling and other economic crimes.

They will also promote collaboration in protecting internal security and combating hostile forces’ activities attempted to undermine the national unity, and boost cooperation at ASEAN-China forums.
