Vietnam, Bulgaria enhance defence ties
(VOV) - Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening multifaceted cooperation with Bulgaria, particularly in defence, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung while receiving the Chief of General Staff of Bulgarian Armed Forces, Simeon Hristov Simeonov, in Hanoi on November 26.
Dung praised the strong development of the traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria over the past years, saying that it has practically benefited the common development of both nations.
The Prime Minister suggested the two sides early sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation, through such forms as the exchange of delegations and experience in international peace keeping activities, military medicine and technique.

For his part, the Bulgarian Chief of Defence said his visit aims to increase the cooperation between the two armies, especially in office training and military medicine.
The same day, the Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty held talks with his Bulgarian counterpart, Hristov Simeonov, on ways to strengthen defence ties between the two countries.
The talks were held after a welcome ceremony for Simeonov, who is on his official visit to Vietnam from November 25-30 at Ty’s invitation.
During the talks, they briefed each other on the current situations of their respective countries and discussed issues of mutual concern.
Ty spoke highly of contributions that Simeonov has made to the traditional friendship between the two armies and peoples.
The two sides agreed to increase cooperation on personnel training, military technologies and sharing of experiences regarding peace-keeping activities of the UN in the future.
General Simeon Hristov Simeonov also paid a courtesy call to Minister of Defence, General Phung Quang Thanh on the occasion.
