Vietnam backs strategic partnership with Thailand
(VOV) - The Vietnam National Assembly supports a plan to upgrade Vietnam-Thailand relations to strategic partnership status in the near future.
The upgrade is an important step towards cementing mutually beneficial bilateral ties and promoting peace, stability and development in the region, visiting Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung told his host Somsak Kiatsuranont, President of the Thailand National Assembly during talks in Bangkok on December 3.
Hung expressed satisfaction at the close bonds formed between the two legislative bodies through delegation exchanges.

He noted that the two countries’ parliamentarians have consulted with and supported each other at regional and international forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The Vietnam National Assembly is willing to cooperate with its Thai counterpart in monitoring the implementation of agreements reached by their respective governments, efficiently delivering practical results to both sides, said Hung.
President Kiatsuranont welcomed Hung’s visit and encouraged the two National Assemblies and Governments to continue strengthening cooperation across all fields for the sake of shared development and prosperity.
With both countries possessing huge potential for producing and exporting rice, Thailand and Vietnam should work closely together to ensure global food security, he said.
Both host and guest agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in culture, transportation, education, and rice production. They also agreed to increase the delegation exchanges, including between their parliamentarians groups.
The same day, Chairman Hung met with Senate Speaker Nikom Wiratpanich, who proposed Thailand and Vietnam prioritise cooperation in key economic areas such as transportation and agricultural production.
He expressed his hope that Thailand and Vietnam will better perform their role in coordinating cooperation within ASEAN for peace, stability and mutual interests.
For his part, Hung emphasized that Vietnam attaches great importance to developing the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Thailand.
He said he believes that Thailand will magnify its international profile under the reign of the King and the sound leadership of the National Assembly and Government.
Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung began his official visit to Thailand on December 3.
