US boosts defence ties with Vietnam

The US will forge ahead with defence cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in addressing war consequences and in peacekeeping operations.

Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Tina S.Kaidanow made the remark while meeting with Deputy Minister of National Defence Nguyen Chi Vinh, in Hanoi on June 7.

She expressed her belief that the two countries’ ties will be further developed for peace and cooperation in the region and the world.

Senior Lieutenant General Vinh lauded the partnership between Vietnam and the US, which has been cemented after President Barack Obama’s recent visit to Vietnam.

He said he hopes both nations will enhance collaboration in dealing with Agent Orange/Dioxin, bombs and mines left in Vietnam from the war and in searching for the remains of US servicemen.
