The Vietnamese leader spoke highly of the outcomes of the Speaker’s visit to Vietnam in February 2017, especially the organisation of a seminar on local collaboration.

President Quang expressed his hope that the Federation Council will continue supporting Russian localities to tighten ties with Vietnamese provinces and cities, in accordance with both sides’ potential and demand.

He also believed that Speaker Matviyenko will further contribute to intensifying and enhancing relations between the Federation Council and the Vietnamese National Assembly as well as between Russia and Vietnam in general.

Speaker Matviyenko said the President’s visit to Russia is of significance to bilateral relations as its outcomes will be a driving force for Russia-Vietnam cooperation in all fields.

She affirmed the relationship between the two legislatures plays an important role in the Russia-Vietnam ties, and appreciated the two bodies’ regular organisation of meetings and dialogues as well as their close coordination at international inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), and the Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to work together to raise two-way trade to US$10 billion by 2020, and pledged to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy, defence-security, education-training, culture, tourism and science-technology.

They also affirmed to maintain close coordination at multilateral forums, especially during the Vietnam APEC Year 2017.
