PM pledges coordination for successful ASEAN summit

(VOV) - Vietnam will support and work closely with Cambodia to ensure the success of the 21st ASEAN Summit and related summits held in Phrom Penh.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the commitment at a meeting with his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Hun Sen in Phrom Penh on November 17. He highlighted Cambodia’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2012, saying he believes it will help raise the country’s profile in the international arena.

Both PMs expressed their delight with the development of Vietnam-Cambodia relationship, as well as with the mutually beneficial cooperation between their respective ministries and agencies at all levels.

They also acknowledged the coordinated planning undertaken in preparation for marking the 45th anniversary of Vietnamese-Cambodian diplomatic ties, saying the celebrations will deepen the traditions of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

They discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation across the fields of politics, economics, trade, investment, and national security and defence, as well as effectively implementing cooperation agreements.

The two PMs agreed to accelerate border demarcation to build a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development

They expressed their determination to unite with other countries in the Mekong region to promote the sustainable use of the water resources or the benefit of all of the region’s nations.

PM Dung and PM Hun Sen also pledged to work closely together in regional and international forums, including those within the framework of ASEAN, the Greater Mekong Subregion, and the United Nations.
