He affirmed his nation’s readiness to cooperate with GMS nations for mutual benefit and prosperity. Japan’s upcoming hosting of the Mekong-Japan Summit will help spur sustainable development in the region and across the globe, he added.

Roughly 1,700 Japanese businesses are currently investing in different areas in Vietnam, focusing on infrastructure, energy, and education, he said, showing hope that the two sides will step up all-round cooperation so as to boost sustainable development in Vietnam, especially in trade and investment.

Concerning the Vietnam-Japan University project, Shionoya asked PM Phuc to pay special attention to this project by offering more optimal conditions and called for more labour cooperation projects, including sending Vietnamese orderlies and caretakers to work in Japan.

He also thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for supporting his nation in dealing with consequences of recent floods.

At the meeting, PM Phuc extended sympathies to the Japanese Government and people on the recent consecutive natural disasters while affirming the two nations’ readiness to assist each other to resolve any difficulties and challenges.

The government leader urged Japan to augment bilateral cooperation in developing infrastructure, industries, and value chains, training human resources, protecting the environment, managing and sustainably using the Mekong River’s water resources, and coping with natural disasters and epidemics.
He said he hopes that these partnerships will help the GMS countries to ensure sustainable development, narrow the development gap, and enhance connectivity both within the GMS and between the GMS and other regions around the world.

PM Phu hailed the contributions by Shionoya and the Japan-Mekong Parliamentary Friendship Association as evidenced by strengthened people-to-people exchange between the GMS countries and Japan over the past years.
