PM Phuc arrives in Nagoya for Japan visit

VOV.VN -  Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived in Nagoya city of Japan’s Aichi prefecture on May 26 to begin his official visit to Japan and attend the expanded G7 Summit Japan 2016. 

Shortly after his arrival, PM Phuc is scheduled to attend a high-level economic policy dialogue between Vietnam and Japan and have bilateral meetings with leaders of several countries attending the expanded G7 summit. 

During his stay, the Vietnamese government leader is expected to have talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on specific measures to foster bilateral ties in politics, economics, trade, investment, supporting industry, agriculture, climate change response, health, education and training, and science and technology. 

The two PMs will witness the exchange of cooperation documents between the two countries. 

Japan is currently the fourth largest trade partner of Vietnam, with two-way trade reaching US$28 billion in 2015 and roughly US$6.4 billion in the first quarter of this year. 

The country ranks second among 114 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with over 3,000 direct investment projects valued at more than US$39 billion as of April 20, 2016. 

Japan remains the largest provider of official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam, accounting for around 30% of the total ODA committed by international communities for the Southeast Asian country. 

Japan is the first G7 member country to have set up a strategic partnership with Vietnam and recognize its market economy.
