PM asks for Vietnam-RoK FTA support
(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has expressed hope that the Republic of Korean National Assembly will support Vietnam-RoK negotiations of a free trade agreement to boost two-way trade.
Receiving RoK National Assembly speaker Kang Chang Hee in Hanoi on January 14, Dung hailed the fine development of the strategic cooperation partnership between the two countries and believed Kang’s visit will make a practical contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation in all areas.
He said both countries hold great potential for stronger cooperation, especially in economics, trade and investment, and vowed to create favourable conditions for Korean companies to do long-term and effective business in the country.
Dung proposed that the RoK legislature support the two governments in increasing cooperation in economics, trade, investment, tourism and labour, as well as considering maintaining ODA provision for Vietnam.
He hoped that the RoK support peace and stability in the East Sea, as well as the settlement of East Sea disputes through peaceful means and according to international law.
For his part, Kang said he was impressed by Vietnam’s Renewal achievements and its increasing role and position in the world.
He acknowledged Dung’s proposals and confirmed that the RoK attaches importance to fostering the cooperation partnership with Vietnam, primarily in economics, trade, investment, and education-training.
He suggested both sides increase cooperation in energy, infrastructure construction, science-technology and aviation.
The same day, Kang was received by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong who voiced Vietnam’s consistent policy of strengthening the strategic cooperation partnership with the RoK.
He said both sides should expand multifaceted cooperation in institution building, infrastructure construction, and human resource development.
During earlier talks, Kang and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Sinh Hung agreed to boost parliamentary links between the two countries to share experience in legislation and supervision.
