Party leader receives Italian communists
(VOV) - Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong met with Paolo Ferrero, General Secretary of the Communist Refoundation Party (PRC), in Rome on January 22.
He briefed his host on his January 21-22 visit to Italy, and stressed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam appreciate the solidarity, whole-hearted support and valuable assistance that communists, left-wingers and people of Italy have provided for Vietnam over the years.
Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening the friendship and all-round cooperation with Italy which is a founder of the European Union and plays an important role in regional and global organizations, said Trong.
He said top Italian leaders and he had exchanged views on bilateral relations and signed a joint statement on establishing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
He expressed his belief that the outcome of his visit will pave the way for the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Refoundation Party of Italy to boost cooperation through delegation visits and information sharing.
Paolo Ferrero spoke highly of Vietnam’s Doi Moi (Renewal) achievements and wanted to foster relations between the two communist parties to share experience in Party building and leadership, as well as in economic management.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong paid an official two-day visit to Italy at the invitation of President Giorgio Napolitano.
