The Vietnamese Party, State and Government always attach importance to relations with Japan, and want to develop these ties practically and comprehensively, said National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan (R) and Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Progressive Party of Japan Yukio Edano
At a reception for Yukio Edano, Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Progressive Party of Japan (DPPJ) in Hanoi on May 29, Chairwoman Ngan expressed her delight at the flourishing ties between the two nations, suggesting the Japanese official and other parliamentarians of the DPPJ, as well as those of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Union (JPFPU) uphold their role in fostering the bilateral relationship and mutual understanding.

Yukio Edano affirmed that the DPPJ wants to further strengthen its relations with the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), adding that parliamentarians of the Japanese party will actively join activities of the JVFPU, thus contributing to sustainable development of the Japan-Vietnam relationship based on the Extensive Strategic Partnership.

This is the first time the DPPJ has sent a delegation to Vietnam under the memorandum of understanding on enhancing cooperation between the CPV and the DPPJ, he said.

Previously, the Japanese delegation paid a courtesy visit to Politburo member, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission Pham Minh Chinh, who is also President of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians Group.

The Vietnamese official highlighted the significance of the visit, saying that it contributes to stepping up cooperation between the two Parties, promoting the people-to-people friendship and deepening the Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership.

Earlier the same day, Yukio Edano held talks with Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Tran Dac Loi, during which the two sides hailed recent cooperation between the two Parties.

They discussed regional and international issues, as well as orientations and measures to boost the ties between the two Parties, thus enhancing the Vietnam-Japan relations in the coming time.

During their stay, the Japanese guests also met with representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and visited central Da Nang city.
