India, Vietnam boost defence links
(VOV) - National Defence Minister Gen. Phung Quang Thanh received the Indian Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Devendra Kumar Joski in Hanoi on November 26.
Minister Thanh used the reception to note Vietnam continues to treasure its time-honoured friendship with India. Both countries share similarities and common strategic interests and are ready to offer each other support at regional and international forums.
The Vietnamese Government, people, and army remember the assistance provided by their Indian counterparts during the past struggles for national independence and in the ongoing process of national construction and defence.
Since military attaché relations between the two countries were established (India in 1980 and Vietnam in 1985), the traditional friendship has expanded considerably.
Vietnamese-Indian defence cooperation has consistently developed after the 2009 signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral defence cooperation.
Admiral Devendra Kumar Joski said he hopes his Vietnam visit will end as a great success.
