He congratulated Myanmar on its recent socio-economic achievements and affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to support the country’s efforts to promote the national peace and reconciliation process.
For his part, Minister U Kyaw Tin extolled the growing bilateral relationship, which was set up in 1975 and has seen constant development via regular high-ranking exchange visits.
He also highlighted flourishing economic, trade, and investment ties between the two nations, which have much room for further expansion towards reaching the bilateral trade target of US$1 billion in 2020 as set by the two countries’ leaders.
The Myanmar official also congratulated Vietnam on its major economic achievements and the successful organization of the second summit between the US and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea as a positive contribution to global peace and stability.
At the meeting, PM Phuc called on both sides to strengthen partnerships in economics, trade, and investment and improve mechanisms to augment cooperation for common development while noting that there remains huge potential and plenty of opportunities for stronger cooperation.
He affirmed Vietnam’s continued support for Myanmar at multilateral forums and its willingness to share development experience with Myanmar. He called for closer coordination, especially as Vietnam takes over the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and is running for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.
The PM also voiced his confidence that Minister U Kyaw Tin will make greater contributions to relations between the two nations, as well as among ASEAN member states.
