The honour was presented by Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Don Tuan Phong at a ceremony in Hanoi on September 13.

In his remarks, Phong hailed Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz’s contributions to the success of high-level visits between the two countries.

The ambassador has also paid due attention to strengthening bilateral collaboration in economy, culture and health care, as well as partnerships between businesses and cultural-social organisations of the two countries.

His tenure in Vietnam witnessed major events marking the bilateral ties, with the most noteworthy being activities celebrating the 55th anniversary of the diplomatic ties (December 2, 1960), the seventh Asia-Pacific Regional Conference for Solidarity with Cuba in Hanoi (August 2015) and the 40th anniversary of President Fidel Castro’s visit to Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri (1973-2013), he said.

For his part, Herminio Lopez Diaz said the insignia demonstrates the warm feeling of the VUFO, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association and Vietnamese people towards him and Cuban people in general.

He pledged to continue to work for the fruitful friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
