Concerted effort by Vietnam, Canada’s NAs needed to further bilateral ties
Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expected the parliaments of Vietnam and Canada will make concerted effort to further deepen the two countries’ relations in a reception hosted for Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Ping Kitnikone on January 9.

She also hoped the two legislative bodies will make concerted effort to further develop the nation’s ties in the spirit of the Joint Statement on the establishment of comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Canada for the benefit of their people, particularly in the fields of security-defence, sustainable development, environmental protection and response to climate change.
The NA leader highly spoke of the Canadian parliament and government’s great focus on gender equality, feminism and child protection that are priorities in the country’s both domestic and foreign policies.
Ngan extended her greetings and invitation to Canada’s speakers of Senate and House of Commons to visit Vietnam.
She thanked Canada for its new ODA projects to help Vietnam respond to climate change and food safety issues and improve the capacity of agricultural cooperatives.
Canadian Ambassador Ping Kitnikone, for her part, expressed her delight that the two countries have maintained all-level visit exchanges, including visits of the NA delegations, which would enhance information exchange and mutual understanding of the two sides.
Kitnikone affirmed that Canada’s Senate and House of Commons will send representatives to attend the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) that will take place in Hanoi next week.
The two sides later exchanged views on several issues of mutual concern. The Vietnamese NA chairwoman showed her gratitude for Canada, as a key member of G7 and G20, for supporting ASEAN and Vietnam’s stance in the East Sea issues, and backing the settlement of territorial disputes in the waters through peaceful means in line with international laws.
