Chinese Party official calls for deeper relations with Vietnam

The parties of China and Vietnam should enhance high-level delegation exchanges, reinforce political trust, promote strategic connectivity, and effectively control disputes, for healthy and stable ties between the two parties and countries, a senior party official of China has said.

Zhao Leji, member of the Communist Party of China’s Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee Secretariat and head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Department, made the remarks during talks with Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, in Beijing on December 11.

He said the Chinese Party, State and people will spare no effort to deepen relations with Vietnam.

For his part, Chinh stressed that the two countries should strengthen their friendship and cooperation and jointly create a peaceful and stable environment for future development on the basis of the shared awareness on the importance of Vietnam-China relations.

He confirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State always attach great importance to the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China, and regards this as a top priority and strategic choice in the country’s external affairs policy.

He proposed the two sides focus on increasing political trust via high-level delegation exchanges, improving the efficiency of cooperation mechanisms, particularly the meetings between Politburo representatives, and sharing experience in theoretical research and Party building.

The official also recommended implementing more effectively the training cooperation plan for 2016-2020 while stepping up coordination in defence, security, and external affairs in addition to people-to-people exchanges, economics, and investment.

He called on Vietnam and China to join hands to address maritime issues, especially in implementing the agreement on fundamental principles guiding the settlement of sea issues, to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea as well as in the region and beyond.


Politburo Pham Minh Chinh is leading a Vietnamese Party delegation on a working visit to China from December 11-15.
