Vietnamese pianist Luu Hong Quang has won third prize at the Val Tidone international music competition held recent in Italy for young musicians aged from 16 to 19.
Quang, born in 1990, is the youngest artist among 49 candidates from many countries around the world, including China, the Republic of Korea and Japan.
This year, the jury chose not to give a second place award. The first prize went to a Taiwanese contestant.
This is the first time Vietnam has sent candidates to compete in the competition. Quang is the son of outstanding artist Luu Quang Minh, who is now a lecturer at the Hanoi Conservatoire.
