Although finishing first in the women’s 200m backstroke heat 1 after 2m13s35, Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien has failed to secure a place in the semi-finals of the London 2012 Olympics.
Vien made an impressive start with her first 50m clocked only 68s. She was closely followed by Henao Carolina from Colombia in the remaining 150m and could only touch the finish line 0s29 faster than her rival.
This is the best result Vien has reached since her 2m13s84 record made at the Southeast Asian Swimming Championships last June.
However, she was still slower than four swimmers in other heats.
