Yen Tu Spring Festival officially opens on the tenth of the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) (February 16). This is one of the most sacred and largest religious festivals that attracts a large number of visitors from all over the country.

Yen Tu Pagoda is a group of ancient pagodas in Yen Tu Mountain in Thuong Yen Cong Commune, Uong Bi Municipality, of Quang Ninh Province. In the mountain, there are eleven pagodas and hundreds of hermitages and towers. Sitting on the highest peak of the mountain, 1068 metres above sea level, is Chua Dong (Bronze Pagoda) and a number of towers, among which is a three-storey stone tower dating back to 1758. All pagodas and temples on the mountain are closely linked to legends and narratives of Truc Lam School of Vietnamese Zen Buddhism and King Tran Nhan Tong (1258-1308), one of the greatest national heroes of the Tran Dynasty that three times led his people to trounce the Yuan aggressors.

During the first days of the Lunar New Year, visitors came to Yen Tu Pagoda to pray for happiness and good luck to themselves and their families.

To create good conditions for visitors, recent years, Quang Ninh province has invested in improving their infrastructure. Late last year a new bus route from Uong Bi-Ha Long was opened with investment capital of VND11 billion. Car parks were expanded and in particular a new 900m cable car capitalized at nearly VND70 billion from One Temple Roof Pagoda to An Ky Sinh which is about 700m from Dong Pagoda and put into operation. This provides visitors and pilgrims with a good chance to pray at the most legendary pagoda. In addition to roads, visitors can use the cable car.

From the second to the fifth of the Tet holiday, despite the cold weather Yen Tu received 12,000 visitors and the number of arrivals will increase sharply from the opening of the festival there.
