Vietnamese wushu artist Nguyen Mai Phuong won a gold medal on the eighth day of the ongoing 26th SEA Games in Indonesia, November 19, bringing the total number of golds for Vietnam so far to 72. 

Phuong defeated the Indonesian rival, Susyana Tjhan, in the women’s giangshu (spear-play) event to clinch the gold with 9.71 points.

In the men’s gunshu (cudgel-play), Nguyen Thanh Tung won a bronze medal with 9.64 points, while Malaysian martial artist Yang Lee bagged the gold with 9.71points.

Nguyen Huy Thanh only scored 9.32 points in the men’s giangshu, coming in seventh, while his Indonesian rival Aldy Lukman won the event.

Vietnam has so far passed Thailand in the medal tally to take over second place with 72 gold medals.
