These writers had created famous works about the friendship of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. They agreed to establish a Mekong River literature prize to honour outstanding works about the solidarity and friendly relations between the countries.

Some participants in the conference urged the translation of the most outstanding works into all three languages - Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian - in order to popularize the literature of the three countries.

During the event, they will visit Ha Long Bay in northern Quang Ninh province, Tam Dao resort in northern Vinh Phuc province and the late President Ho Chi Minh’s working and living places. They will also meet with senior leaders of the Party and State and participate in an exchange programme with local writers and readers.

The conference id held in rotation between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia with the aim of implementing their agreement reached at the meeting of presidents of the writers’ associations of the three countries in December 2006.
