Nearly 1,000 gamers from northern provinces and cities participated in the World Cyber Games Vietnam 2008 in Hanoi on July 12.

In this year’s event, both individuals and teams will compete in four programmes: Fifa 2008, Starcraft, DOTA All-Stars and Counter Strike 1.6.

Game experts pin their hopes on Vietnam’s renowned gamers such as Pham Khac Viet in Fifa 2008, ProA.Thuoclao in Starcraft, NetViet in DOTA All-Stars and proA.gm in Counter Strike 1.6.

The two-day competition is divided into two separate categories for amateur and professional gamers. Winners at the event are expected to attend the World Cyber Games Asian Championship 2008 to be held in Singapore in August and the World Cyber Games Grand Final in Cologne, Germany, in November.
