UNESCO’s Convention for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritages says that Living Human Treasures are people who possess a high degree of knowledge and skills required to perform and recreate specific elements of the country’s cultural heritage.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism’s Cultural Department, the workshop aims to provide knowledge about the world’s different Living Human treasures, in an effort to safeguard cultural heritages.
UNESCO’s Living Human Treasures programme encourages member states to officially recognise to efforts made by traditional culture groups in passing on their knowledge and skills to younger generations.
The workshop was sponsored by the Establishment Initiative for the Asia-Pacific Intangible Heritage Centre.
