In the seventh round of the 2012 World Chess Olympiad in Turkey on September 5 the Vietnamese female chess players successfully held stronger rivals from Serbia to a 2-2 draw.
  • Women team beat Czech at World Chess Olympiad

Le Kieu Thien Kim was defeated by international GM Maria Manakova, who has won 6 games, earning 15.4 Elo points.

Hoang Thi Nhu Y then saved the team’s face by beating Andjelija Stojanovic while her two teammates Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Pham Bich Ngoc shared the points with their rivals.

With a total of 18.5 points, the squad has still held on to its 7th place while Serbia was dropped to 13th.

In the next round, they are scheduled to face Indian rivals, Harika Dronavalli, known as the only female player achieving the international GM title for men with the Elo points of 2,503 and Eesha Sanjay Karavade and Tania Sachdev, as two GMs in the men’s standard.

Meanwhile, the men’s team has fallen to 34th place after having a 2-2 draw with Turkey 1, and played Turkey 2 later.
