Weightlifter Tuan triumphs at National Championships
(VOV) -Hoang Anh Tuan marked his glorious return from a 2-year doping ban by bagging a gold medal in the men’s 56kg snatch event at the 2012 National Weightlifting Championships.
He successfully lifted 126kg, 1kg more than London Olympian Tran Le Quoc Toan.
Anh Tuan failed in the clean and jerk event, lifting 151kg compared Toan’s 153kg in total.
It meant Toan achieved a better overall result and claimed the event’s first place.
Despite the victory, Toan’s performance was disappointing compared to his 248kg lift at the 2012 London Summer Games.
Thach Kim Tuan, an arch rival of Toan and Anh Tuan, unluckily committed errors in all of his three attempts and was disqualified.
Besides the men’s 65kg division, fierce competition is also expected in the women’s 48kg and 53kg events. The strong field of athletes would all be medal chances at any international tournament.
The championships taking place in the northern port city of Haiphong from October 12-15 have attracted 130 athletes from 15 teams across the country. They are competing in various weight categories ranging from 58kg to 75kg.
The championships’ best weightlifters are will be selected for the national squad preparing for the 2013 SEA Games, the 2014 Asian Games, and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
