Traditional water puppetry troupes will start performing regularly at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi from March 14.

Puppeteers from 15 traditional water puppetry villages from Hanoi, Ha Tay, Thai Binh, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh and Hai Duong will showcase their art, inherited from generations of artisans.

The Dao Thuc art troupe from Hanoi’s outlying district of Dong Anh will open the new exhibit accompanied by a sampling of traditional dishes served after the performance.

When visiting the museum, guests will have the opportunity to experience lively performances reflecting the activities and working lives of Vietnamese peasants as well as legends and historic stories told through masterly controlled puppets on water.

Visitors will also have a chance to talk with the artisans and try out their own puppetry skills on a miniature water stage to get better understanding of the traditional art.

Regular performances will be available in every third week of the month from Tuesday to Friday at 10am, 11.30am, 2.30pm and 4pm. An extra show will be held on Saturday at 7pm.
