Vietnam Television VTV and digital TV provider VTC on March 2 officially accepted the proposal to share telecast rights of Vietnam’s professional football leagues with AVG, which has acquired the rights from a controversial deal with Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

In a document sent to VTV and VTC on February 25, AVG deputy CEO Hoang Xuan Bac said AVG wanted to invite the two parties to join it in the contract to receive the TV rights transferring from VFF.

The three parties will thus mutually exploit the TV rights, in which VTV will hold 40 percent of the rights, while VTC and AVG will hold 30 percent each, he said.

“The proposal is intended to show AVG’s goodwill with relevant parties, and to better serve football fans by enabling them to watch the football leagues in different TV transmitting infrastructures,” he said.

In response, Phan Ngoc Tien, deputy head of VTV’s sports-entertainment-economic news department, said in a document sent to AVG that VTV accepted in policy the proposal to share the TV rights with AVG.

“Though VTV always holds interest in sport TV programs, it does respect those holding the legal TV rights and will not involve in TV rights war under any circumstance,” he said.

For its part, VTC also provided a positive response to the proposal.

“VTC agreed with AVG on the cooperation and sharing of TV rights over the Vietnam’s football leagues,” said VTC deputy CEO Nguyen Trung Kim in the responding document.

Meanwhile, AVG Chairman Pham Nhat Vu said once all relevant parties have accepted the partnership proposal of AVG, the company will meet with VTV and VTC next week to reach more specific agreements.
