Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee have agreed to cooperate closely in promoting the capital city’s image in preparation for its 1,000th anniversary next year.

A document to this effect was signed in Hanoi on February 26 by VOV Director General Vu Van Hien and City Mayor Nguyen The Thao.

Accordingly, VOV will direct its five radio channels, the video image broadcasting channel (VOVTV), the weekly, bi-weekly and monthly journals, the online newspaper (VOVNews) and its domestic and overseas bureaux to cover all events leading up to the anniversary celebrations. VOV will select and broadcast live major events, including special art programmes and official celebrations.

VOV Director General Vu Van Hien said that through its different channels, VOV will help Vietnamese and foreign audiences gain a better understanding of Vietnam’s history and cultural traditions and Hanoi’s 1,000-year-old civilisation in particular.

Meanwhile, the Hanoi Mayor vowed to provide VOV with accurate and reliable sources of information and create favourable conditions for its reporters in the line of duty.
