Leaders from Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and central Da Nang City cut the ribbon inaugurating VOV’s FM 10KW transmission station on the top of Ba Na Mount, Hoa Vang District on September 1.

The station has a 75m antenna standing at a height of 1,400m above sea level and two FM transmitters relaying signals of the News and Current Affairs Channel (VOV1) and the Music, Information and Entertainment Channel (VOV3).

VOV Director General Vu Van Hien said the station will enable local people and soldiers stationed in Da Nang City and districts in western Truong Son Mountain Range from central Quang Ngai to Quang Binh provinces to tune in to VOV programmes with better sound quality.

“The inauguration of the station will help VOV achieve the goal of expanding its coverage to 99 percent of the country’s total area next year,” said Mr Hien.

In his address, vice mayor of Da Nang, Tran Phuoc Chinh expressed his hope that thanks to its wide coverage, the station will serve as a useful means of media for people living in remote and mountainous areas and particularly those fishing at sea.

VOV engineers said they are considering installing additional two transmitters to broadcast programmes of the Cultural and Social Affairs Channel (VOV2) and the Ethnic Languages Channel (VOV4) soon.

VOV has six major channels: VOV1, VOV2, VOV3, VOV4, VOV5 (for the foreign community in Vietnam) and VOV6 (the overseas service)
