All media workers should realise their journalistic rights and responsibilities to work in line with professional ethics, said participants of a workshop held by VOV in Hanoi on June 26.

Senior and young VOV journalists attended the workshop with the aim of gathering opinions on the draft professional ethics of the Vietnam Journalists Association.

Participants spoke highly of the important role of the press in building a healthy lifestyle in society. However, they pointed out the fact that there are inexperienced journalists who work against professional ethics as they either provide misleading information or simple cater for the taste of a certain segment of society. Journalists should combat such phenomena, stressed delegates.

Young journalists said they will fulfill their responsibility towards society, actively contribute to building a healthy lifestyle, practise the profession honestly, abide by the law and maintain the professional ethics.

Speaking at the workshop, VOV Director General Vu Van Hien said the professional ethics have been formed in keeping with the nature of the regime and the development of the press. Therefore, he said, press agencies should build a healthy environment to enhance the professional ethics and individual responsibility of journalists.
