An Indochina Cultural Friendship Park will be built in Laos’s southern province of Attapu to showcase the culture of the ethnic groups.

The park will display arms, ammunition, and military equipment used by Laos and Vietnam in their fight against foreign aggression. The historic Ho Chi Minh trail which runs through Laos, will be a highlighted feature of the park.

Ounla Sayasith, director of the Attapu provincial Department of Information and Culture, says the park will cover an area of 1ha in Somboun village, Sanxay district, to which a Vietnamese rocket was transported from North Vietnam in 1975 for the liberation of South Vietnam. By the time it arrived in Somboun, the army had learned that Sai Gon had already been liberated so the rocket was left in Somboun.

Mr Sayasith believes the park will help the people of Laos and Vietnam remember their close friendship during the war.
