“Vietnam - Tradition and Modernity” was the main theme of the eighth International Day of Solidarity which was held in the city of Brou sur Chantereine, France recently.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the city mayor, Jean-Marc Deschamps, briefed participants on Vietnam’s cultural and historical traditions as well as its renewal process. He emphasised that Vietnam is one of many nations in the world leaving a deep impression in the heart of French.
On the occasion, many people in the city and other neighbouring cities had the chance to learn about Vietnam and its people through culinary arts, traditional folk dances and songs, fashion shows of ao dai (traditional long dress) and wedding costumes of Vietnam’s ethnic groups, and painting exhibitions. Also on display were many handicraft products and newspapers.
Meanwhile, many activities about Vietnam were also held in the city of Sainte Livrade, around 500 km away from Paris. The activities marked the 50th anniversary of the return of French people from Vietnam under the Geneve Agreement dated July 21, 1954.
