Two young designers have been chosen to represent Vietnam at two international fashion shows in Germany and Singapore, proving the country’s growing position in the global industry.
Designer Thien Toan, together with his colleagues from China, Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, will launch their collections at Infashion Berlin slated for September 21-23. The event is expected to draw 5,000 visitors.

Thien Toan will present 15 designs themed “Terraced fields” and “Bamboo”, aimed at highlighting the strength of Vietnam’s nature and people.

Toan used traditional techniques and materials such as organza, taffeta, tussore and silk, using natural patterns. His works provide international fashion-lovers a glimpse into the country’s embroidering art.

Meanwhile, designer Anh Vu will join other fashionmongers from China, Japan, the RoK, Thailand and Singapore to showcase their collections at the ASEAN Designer Show scheduled in Vivo City, Singapore, on October 14.

The programme will be held to mark the 30th anniversary of the ASEAN Federation of Textile Industries (Aftex) and the 40th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Vu’s autumn-spring collection is a convergence of both traditional and model styles. His 20 pieces were created based on patterns and colours of traditional costumes of H’mong and Ha Nhi ethnic minority groups in combination with European styles.
He used traditional materials like silk, satin, tussore and habota to create an elegant new trend.
