An extensive exhibition of Vietnamese silk paintings is scheduled to open in Paris in late July, said the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
An estimated 70 works by painters from two generations will be on display to introduce the specific beauty of Vietnamese silk paintings and to distinguish them from Japanese and Chinese paintings.
In 1930, famous painter Nguyen Phan Chanh opened an exhibition of his own in Paris, featuring Vietnamese customs and folk games to the world such as the Mancala or “Count-and-Capture” game, Rice Washing and Fortune Seeing.
Vietnamese silk paintings have also been exhibited in Italy, the US and Japan.
