The fifth Vietnamese Poetry Day is being held in 100 venues nationwide, including Van Mieu (the Temple of Literature) in Hanoi, the Sai Gon Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Ho Chi Minh City and central Ha Tinh province - the native land of the great Vietnamese writer Nguyen Du.

The festival, lasting through the 15th day of the first lunar month (March 3), aims to mark the 50th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Writers’ Association in 2007; honour the country's great poets and provide an opportunity for young talented poets to share their works with the public.

On the occasion, a sole collection of poems written on "giay do" (poonah paper) has been auctioned for a record price of VND250.5 million. The first ever 20kg collection comprises more than 100 poems written by Vietnamese poets since 1930.

The money will be transferred to the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin on the "Nguyen Tieu" festival on March 3 the 15th day of the first lunar month at the Sai Gon Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
