An exhibition opened in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, on September 1 to display 35 well-known Vietnamese oil works by Bui Xuan Phai, which depict Hanoi old streets, Vietnamese rural areas, and the country’s traditional art of cheo (popular theatre).

Mr Phai’s paintings possess a unique combination of western and eastern art values imbued with Vietnamese soul, said Scott Kim, a Korean fan of Phai’s paintings, which are regarded as Vietnam’s cultural message to other countries in the region.

Mr Kim has visited Vietnam many times to prepare for the exhibition, as well as publication of Phai’s works in the Republic of Korea.
