More than 600 overseas Vietnamese of Chinese origin and Hoa (ethnic Chinese) people in Ho Chi Minh City met on February 14 to celebrate the traditional New Year Festival.

Chairwoman of the HCM City People’s Council Pham Phuong Thao said she was happy about contributions made by more than one million overseas Vietnamese, including those of Chinese origin, to the city and their families.


The municipal leader expressed hope that overseas Vietnamese of Chinese origin and Hoa people in the city will work to preserve their identity in harmony with the Vietnamese culture of 54 ethnic groups.


On behalf of overseas Vietnamese, Head of the Working Board for Hoa People in Ho Chi Minh City Dao Nhieu Linh expressed gratitude to the municipal authorities for supporting and aiding the development of Hoa community.
