Twelve writers from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia received the first Mekong River Literature Award at a ceremony in Hanoi, on September 10.

The recipients include five from Vietnam, three from Laos and four from Cambodia who have actively contributed to promoting the solidarity and friendship between people of the three countries.


The conference of writers from the three countries issued a joint declaration, saying that stressed the preservation and development of national cultural characteristics and supported the establishment of the Mekong River Literature Fund to finance the presentation of the award annually.


Also at the ceremony, the Presidents of the Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian writers’ associations received the insignia “For the Cause of Peace and Friendship among Peoples” by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations.
