A Vietnamese film, "Sai Gon nhat thuc" (Saigon solar eclipse), has won the special jury award at the 40th WorldFest Houston Film Festival in Texas, US after being screened on April 26.

It also won nominations two days later for the Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Los Angeles, the biggest film festival in south California that is scheduled for May 3-10, according to Tuoi Tre newspaper.

Overseas Vietnamese director Othello Khanh said the film was inspired by the characters and themes in Nguyen Du's masterpiece "Kieu’s Tales", one of Vietnam's greatest epic poems.

"Sai Gon nhat thuc" will be also shown at the Cannes March du Film in France on May 20 and 22.
